Main Street Searcy Farmers’ Market Favorites

There’s something sweet about getting up early on a Saturday morning and heading to the local Farmers’ Market. Our local farmers’ market is pretty tiny (usually less than 20 vendors total), but the goodies make it worth it.

Home Baked Goodies

I gotta admit, I’m terrible when it comes to shopping at the farmers’ market. I think most of my money goes toward the home baked goodies. I just can’t resist!

Oatmeal Cream Pies - Wildflour Bakery Searcy

The vendors have the cutest booths set up and the home baked goodies all look delicious. It’s hard to decide which ones to get. These oatmeal cream pies from Wildflour Bakery were delicious. Aybra finished hers before we even finished shopping.

We ended up getting half a dozen macarons – one of my favorite treats ever – from Joyful Macarons. The pistachio was probably my favorite. Kaia liked the strawberry/blueberry cheesecake (blue and red one pictured) because it looked patriotic.

Macarons - Sunday Morning Breakfast

And you can’t forget the bread. Seriously, the first thing my kids said when I told them we were going to the Farmers’ Market was “Get bread!”

Willowbrook Farm - Homemade Bread Searcy

Willowbrook Farm is our go to for bread at the Farmers’ Market. Her recipe is very similar to mine, but with the added bonus of me not having to make it.

Health and Body Care

My next favorite item at the Farmers’ Market is the health and body care selections available from various vendors. You can find everything from shampoo bars to lip balm, and even soap.

Homemade Soap Bars - Ladybug Creations Searcy

Peppermint and Lavender are my favorite scents for soap, but I didn’t get any soap today. Instead, I got a jar of lemongrass body scrub from a local 4-H family. It smells amazing and I can’t wait to use it.

Produce

I think when most people think of Farmers’ Markets they think of the locally grown produce, right? While our market has a few vendors that sell meats and eggs, the fruits and veggies are where it’s at.

Arkansas Grown Okra

You can’t go to a store and get okra that was picked the previous day. I’ve heard of some people selling store bought produce at farmers’ market, but I can almost bet everything at my local one is genuinely locally grown and fresh. I ended up getting some green bell peppers. I planned on chopping and freezing any that we didn’t eat soon, but I’m not sure if they will last long.

Looks like we will be heading back for more produce next Saturday, especially since it helps me on my quest to being healthier.

What are some of your favorite things to get from the Farmers’ Market?

  12. One of the great things about living in Florida is that we have a farmer’s market open year round – several in fact. I love all the home made jams, myself. Believe it or not, though, our grocery store (a small, local one) does carry local produce from farmers – frequently picked that day – or the day before. #SmallTownLife
