My Botox and Juvederm Experience (Before and After)

My Botox and Juvederm Experience (Before and After)

Raise your hand if you have ever looked in the mirror and saw something you didn’t like about your body.

My hand is definitely raised over here.

We live in a culture where we pick apart every little thing about our bodies. I remember from a young age wanting to change certain things about my body. I have wanted a breast reduction, liposuction, and lip fillers. I’ve wanted a butt lift, different eye color, and lately my wrinkles reduced.

Before Juvederm Lip Fillers and Botox
Before Juvederm Lip Fillers and Botox

I’ve always been self conscious about my lips and how small they were, and in the past few years I have noticed visible signs of aging on my face, especially around my eyes.

So last week when I had the opportunity to get Botox and lip fillers (aka Juvederm) I could not make an appointment fast enough. I firmly believe that our mental health helps dictate our physical health and when we are happy with ourselves (inside and out) then we are healthier. I consider this a venture into a healthier me.

Arkansas Family Dental - Little Rock Arkansas

Thanks to Arkansas Family Dental, I was able to get Botox and Juvederm. This post has been sponsored by Arkansas Family Dental. All opinions are my own.

Botox at the Dentists’ Office

When we think of Botox and Juvederm, the majority of us probably think about plastic surgeons and medical clinics.

Times have changed!

These procedures can now be done in places like your local dentists’ office.

Yes, that’s right.. A dentists’ office!

I went to Arkansas Family Dental for my procedures. (Totally recommend them by the way!)

Botox and Juvederm Event

Arkansas Family Dental was hosting a Botox and Juvederm event and invited a few bloggers to participate. They really know how to please their customers. They served some light snacks and even wine for those who drink.

I didn’t partake of any of the alcohol, but who can resist those brownies?! After sweetening us up with that delicious spread, we were invited back for a consult.

Getting A Consult

Going into the event I was a little hesitant if I was even going to go through with getting any procedures done. I had just found out two days prior that I was going to be having surgery the following week and I didn’t want to do anything to mess that up.

After consulting with Dr. Pollard, I decided to get Botox on my crows feet and lip fillers on my top and bottom lip, but especially my top lip.

Like any good blogger, I took a few selfies before going in. Here is a before picture. You can see how tiny my lips are and even without a full smile I have visible crows feet.

Botox

The Botox was done first and it was beyond easy. I would say within 5 minutes I was done with that portion. They had me smile in order to get those wrinkles showing real good and marked my face in 3 different spots. The injections were super quick and I barely felt a thing.

They said it was common to have some bruising afterwards and to be sore, but I didn’t bruise at all or feel any soreness. About two or three days later I noticed tiny scabs where the injections occurred, but other than that I had no negative side effects.

I didn’t realize that it could take up to 2 weeks for the full affects to show, but within a week I had visible results.

The second part was the lip injections. Apparently there are two ways they can do this.. With, or without a dental numbing. I received a dental numbing prior to getting the Juvederm injections.

The numbing shots hurt worse than the actual injections, but that is to be expected. I would say the worst part of the entire experience was waiting for the numbness to go away. I felt like I couldn’t eat or drink for hours after the procedure.

By the next day all of the numbness and swelling had went down enough for me to see the results and I was well pleased.

I finally have lips, y’all!

Before and After

This is a before and immediately after the injections. It is a very subtle difference, but one I notice a lot!

Lip Fillers Before and After

I’m still a little shocked when I see myself in the mirror and see my new lips. As you can see, my lips are fuller and have less wrinkles.

Lip Fillers Up Close Before and After Juvederm

The Juvederm injections last 6 months or more. After that your lips will just go back to how they were before. If you prefer not to have the Juverderm injections they can do Botox around your lips which will result in a similar effect. The Botox lasts about 3 months.

My only regret is not going bigger! You are cautioned to not make any drastic changes all at once. Going bigger over time results in a more natural look. Overall, I am digging the changes, especially in the lips. I’m not too sure how I feel about the Botox. I don’t love it or hate it. I would definitely do the lip injections again, but kinda iffy on the Botox. I am debating getting Botox around my lips next to see the difference in the two.

I can totally see how procedures like this are addicting. I’ve noticed myself looking in the mirror at other wrinkled areas and wondering how Botox would affect those.

If you want to learn more about Botox or Juvederm fillers you can set up a consultation with Arkansas Family Dental. They have an amazing referral program, so if you let them know I sent you, that would be cool.

Would you ever have Botox?
What do you think about my results?

12 Favorite Blog Posts

I recently celebrated 1 year of blogging here at Aduke Schulist, and while I sort of let the year slip by without doing as much as I wanted, I still marvel at the progress I made here. I am always so humbled that even 1 person finds interest in my writing, let alone all of you who faithfully read and comment – us bloggers live for comments – on Aduke Schulist.

In celebration of the past 12 months, I wanted to first share with you my 12 favorite blog posts from the past year.

12 Favorite Blog Posts by Aduke Schulist

1. Get Down Downtown 2016 – Outdoor Festival

One of my first posts on this new blog covered a yearly event called Get Down Downtown. Coincidentally that same event is coming up soon, so be on the lookout for this years coverage.

2. Day Out at the Outlets of Little Rock

I enjoyed a girls day out with fellow blogging friend Tiffany while we shopped and learned about some of the great deals being offered by stores in the Outlets of Little Rock Shopping Mall (I still want those shoes! Why have I not bought them yet?!)

We had good food, good fun, and good memories. I can’t tell you how many times I have been back, but even the kids enjoy it.

3. We are… ADOPTING! – Single Mom Adoption

We announced we are adopting. Since then, so much has changed, but not the desire to adopt. I have been putting off updating regarding the process, because there isn’t a whole lot to update at this time, but know that we are STILL planning on adopting! The time line has just been pushed back a bit while I hammer out some details.

4. Stand Still. Stay Strong. Have a VOICE.

It’s hard for me to stand up for myself and to speak my mind, but for 2017 I chose VOICE as my word of the year. With every decision I make, I am reminded of this word and what it means to me to have a say in my life.

I have noticed that I am a much stronger person because of this. I am not as easily intimidated. It has taken a lot of work, and is still a work in progress, but the progress is what’s important.

5. Fertility Awareness Method Explained and Tracking for Health

I gotta admit, I cringed myself when writing this post about the Fertility Awareness Method. Not because I don’t believe in it, but I was nervous of the reactions I would get. It still baffles me that some women are so ignorant about their own bodies. I was once one of them! Learning about my body and it’s functions has empowered me.

6. Mommy Med Spa Day – A Day Of Pampering and Pedicures

I joined Tiffany again for a day of pampering provided by the Rejuvenation Clinic Day Spa, Arkansas’s first med spa. That is a day I would love to re-live. Everything about the Spa was so relaxing, and my pedicure lasted for weeks!

7. 5 Reasons I Have Body Hair

Things got a little hairy when I shared 5 Reasons I Have Body Hair.

I was surprised at how supportive some of the comments were. I was really expecting to be bombarded with how gross it is.

8. Boy Scout Camp & Disabilities

Both of my boys are in Boy Scouts, and this Summer, they both attended their first week long Boy Scout camp. Because of Losh’s disabilities and his need for assistance, I had to attend with him.

We had so much fun. I had hesitations with going, but looking back, it was a blast. I even learned how to tie a few knots myself.

9. 2016 Popsugar Reading Challenge

My love of reading was shared when I posted about the 2016 Popsugar Reading Challenge. Because of it, I found a few new favorite authors. This year, I did not participate in a reading challenge.

10. Why Being A Single Parent Is Awesome

My kids mean everything to me, and while parenting them alone is a challenge, there is so much to love. I shared some of my favorite things in Why Being A Single Parent Is Awesome.

11. Before You Get 4-H Chickens

My desire to raise chickens for eggs was somewhat fulfilled last year when we raised our first flock of baby chicks.

Spoiler: most of them died, and we ultimately didn’t get a single egg, but learned a lot and are patiently awaiting an egg from our second flock of chickens.

12. Hashimoto’s and Dietary Changes

Sharing my health journey began when I learned that I had Hashimoto’s and started taking medication to treat it. I posted about how I am making dietary changes to help keep this in check…

Thyroid Medication for Hashimoto's Levothyroxine

It’s hard y’all! I’m still struggling with removing gluten from my diet, but have drastically reduced my intake. I don’t notice any difference yet.

So, there you have it.. my 12 favorite posts from the last 12 months. I hope you took the time to view a few of these as you were making your way down the list. Tell me below in the comments…

How To Start A Blog

How To Start A Blog

I’ve been blogging since the early 2000’s. Since then, I’ve had many people ask me how to start a blog. Because blogging means so much to different people, it is hard to give a simple answer.

This post contains affiliate links.

If you have any intention of growing your blog into a business, or making money with it, then the answer is a little more complicated than simply signing up for an account on WordPress, Blogger, or one of the other many blogging platforms available these days.

If you want to stand out from the competition (and let’s be real, there are a LOT of blogs out there), then you want to make sure you do it right. These are the things I recommend you do if you are curious how to start a blog:

How To Start A Blog with Bluehost by Aduke Schulist

Choose A Niche

The first thing to decide is WHAT you want to blog about. This could be food, lifestyle, health, parenting, DIY, etc.  Make sure you are passionate about your subject. Keep in mind, general lifestyle blogs (like Aduke Schulist) can cover a lot of different topics, but should still be narrowed down to a few categories. Not everybody is interested in just you. They want to know what you can do for them. For the purpose of this blog, we are going to assume you want to blog about parenting.

Choose A Name

Now that you have decided what you want to blog about, the next step is choosing a name. Make sure the name you choose is available on every single social media platform. You don’t want to be NewMommy23 on Twitter and NewMommy532 on Instagram Because NewMommy has already been taken on those platform. The goal here is to be consistent.

Make sure the name reflects the content. Are you still going to be a New Mommy 2-3 years after starting your blog? Are you comfortable with sharing only content geared towards other new moms?

Purchase A Domain Name & Host

Once you have figured out your name, it’s time to build the foundation. This includes purchasing a domain name and securing the name on all social media platforms. Securing the name just involves creating a new account, or page on FaceBook, with your chosen name on each social media platform.

There is much debate whether the domain name and host should be with the same company. I’ve tried it both ways and really have no preference. You can purchase a new domain name as well as host your existing domain name with some companies like Bluehost. Bluehost offers hosting for as little as $3.95 per month and is who I use.

Install WordPress

There are various ways to actually write your blog, but WordPress is the most common, supported, and easiest to use option. Thankfully, Bluehost has the ability to install WordPress – and keep it up to date – automatically when you install using your Bluehost account.

That’s it! It’s now time for the fun part: Blogging!

This is the moment you waited for. You have everything in place, WordPress has been installed, now you can blog until your heart is content.

To help me stay organized and keep a record of various things, I use the Epic Blog Planner.

Mommy Med Spa Day – A Day Of Pampering and Pedicures

This post has been sponsored by Rejuvenation Clinic Day Spa. All opinions are my own.
Mommy Med Spa Day

You guys want to know a little secret?

I love to be pampered.

Hello?! What girl doesn’t?

When Rejuvenation Clinic Day Spa invited me and a few other bloggers to enjoy a day of pampering, I couldn’t say “Yes!” quick enough.

Single mom. Three kids. Need I say more?

SingleMommyWarrior and AdukeSchulist
Fellow blogger and single mom, SingleMommyWarrior and I on our way to the clinic.

The Rejuvenation Clinic Day Spa was the first day spa to open in Little Rock and just so happens to be owned and operated by the first aesthetician licensed in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mrs. Mahvash Kamran and her husband Jim. This clinic has been around since the beginning, so they legit know what they are doing.

Not only is it a day spa, they have a complete med spa side too. The med spa includes treatment performed by board certified doctor Bob Young, MD with the help of registered nurse, Sara Molsbee. Combined, they have over 30 years experience working in the med spa industry, making treatments safe and effective.

Med Spa Treatments

Long gone are the days when only those in their late 30s and beyond got med spa treatments. Med spas these days are geared towards men and women of all ages. Some of the treatments include Botox, Hydrafacials, Chemical Peels, Microneedling, and more.

These treatments erase signs of aging, skin damage, acne scars, and make your skin look and feel as fresh as it should.

Pampering Pedicures and a Med Spa Day

I’m counting down the days until I can schedule my Hydrafacial. The process involves shooting a blast of hydration and moisture into your skin all while simultaneously removing impurities within the skin.

Whether hyper-pigmentation, signs of aging, wrinkles, acne scars, or fine lines are your worry, the Rejuvenation Clinic med spa has a treatment that is just right for your needs.

Exclusive Product Lines

On top of the amazing treatments, they have some incredible product lines to choose from. Some of their product lines are exclusive to the Rejuvenation clinic like Ultraluxe. Ultraluxe is a vegan, non-toxic, natural line of skincare products. They have this amazing Eucalyptus Mud Wash that I highly recommend you try. They also have nourishing complexes like this Omega-3 Repair Complex.

Along with the Ultraluxe line, Rejuvenation Clinic carries other brands like Natura Bisse (only two spas in Little Rock carry this line), Eminence, and more. If you schedule a massage or facial, you even get a piece of chocolate from Eminence in your own, personal locker.

Pedicure to Pamper my Feet

The day I went, I took advantage of the day spa side and got treated to a fabulous pedicure. Norma, my nail technician made me feel so comfortable and relaxed through the entire process. It was pure bliss.

I picked out a deep pink color and am happy to say it is still going strong, even two weeks later! I have the cutest feet in town.

Now for the fun part… Mother’s Day is coming up and I wanted to invite all of you to give the gift of health and pampering. Rejuvenation Clinic and I have teamed up to share their goodness, in the form of a gift card, with one of you. It could be to your own mother, or just a friend in need. Day Out at the Outlets of Little Rock

This post has been made possible by the Outlets of Little Rock. Compensation has been provided for my time and social media influence. All opinions are my own.
Day Out at the Outlets of Little Rock

There are two things I love: Shopping and Starbucks! Luckily, the Outlets of Little Rock has both. They opened up in late 2015 with over 50 stores to choose from. Over 50 stores y’all! Today, I got to go shopping with some fellow bloggers and enjoy delicious treats from a variety of shops.

Outlets of Little Rock

We made our way around the stores, collecting goodies and filling our bellies as we went. I think I added about 5 million things to my Wishlist. This pair of shoes was one of them.

I would die for this shoe from Corkys Footwear

Others stops included Tommy Hilfiger, Corky’s Footwear, and Beef Jerky Outlet. I had no clue they even made Kangaroo jerky! We tasted different kinds of Jerky

Sweetness Overload

One of my favorite stops was the Lindt store where we learned how to use our 5 senses to enhance our chocolate experience. I thought I already knew how to enjoy chocolate, but they helped me really enjoy it.

Starbucks spoke my love language by providing drinks and samplings to the bloggers. I went with my typical Starbucks order of a Caramel Macchiato.

Giving Back

The Outlets are getting the community involved in different ways. In February, they hosted a Wish-A-Thon to raise money for Make A Wish children, and served Coffee with Cops in January. Coming up on April 22nd is a Food Truck Festival. This is a great way to get your grub on and support a cause. Some vendors are Black Hound BBQ, Eat at Eric’s, and Cypress Knee Food.

If you are shopping for a gift for somebody, the Outlets of Little Rock is the place to go. They seriously have something for everybody. I can’t wait to go back with the kids.
